Even though the EU Pay Transparency Directive has not yet been fully transposed into German law, the underlying principle already applies in practice: the right to information and the obligation to explain pay differences. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134233117\":true,\"134233118\":true}\"> <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is not a \u201cnice-to-have,\u201d but a fundamental value: equality before the law\u2014and with it, the right to equal pay for equal work or work of equal value. Our conversations with clients paint a similar picture: <b>only a few DAX companies are already pursuing active, open communication. <\/b> <\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">The reasons are understandable:<\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"26\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pay transparency can feel like a bureaucratic burden.<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"26\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There is uncertainty about whether criteria such as <b>responsibility, workload, skills, and working conditions<\/b> are truly robust and explainable.<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"26\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There is concern about complaints, lawsuits, and reputational damage.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These questions are legitimate. They become problematic when they lead to paralysis. But you do need a <b>clear, robust pay philosophy<\/b>\u2014a narrative. It should answer, among other things: <\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"27\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What does your company pay for\u2014and what does it not?<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"27\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How do you weigh responsibility, workload, skills, and working conditions?<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"27\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Which pay structures and ranges exist\u2014and why?<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"27\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How does your pay compare to the external market?<\/span><\/li><li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"27\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\">How large is your <a href=\"https:\/\/unequity.com\/en\/equal-pay-when-the-numbers-just-add-up\/\">gender pay gap<\/a>?<\/li><\/ul><p>On this basis, you can explain pay differences in a factual and consistent way. And <b>communication needs faces that people will listen to\u2014and believe.<\/b> <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134233117\":true,\"134233118\":true}\"> <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Neither the executive board nor HR business partners are automatically the best communicators for this topic. The expertise usually sits in HR and Legal, so Internal Communications should be involved early.<br\/>At the same time, you need integrators who can translate this expertise, put it into context, and connect it to your company values.   <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134233117\":true,\"134233118\":true}\"> These people\u2014or this team\u2014are your <b>pay transparency messengers<\/b>.
