Inspired by INSP!RE

A particular highlight for our team this year was our visit to INSPIRE—Internal Communication in the Age of AI Congress—in Düsseldorf, organized by SCM. At the event, we explored the current technological status, the advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and opportunities of AI, and what it means for our work.

The TL;DR: Internal communication is—and will remain—the bridge between worlds. Support from artificial intelligence can make work easier, but the focus stays on the human-to-human connection. AI is a strategic tool that will grow in importance as technology evolves.

And once again, we confirmed the well-known scientific theory that writing down content helps you remember it better than simply listening or watching a presentation. As our readers may struggle to read our handwriting, we decided to share our scribbled insights in a more legible format!

Our 5 essential insights:

1

The importance of AI for internal communication

  • AI can support communication, but it must be used responsibly.
  • Openness, trust, and respectful cooperation remain essential.
  • If used appropriately, AI offers space for human communication.

2

The role of internal communication

  • Internal communication must act as a moderator and facilitator of change.
  • It is a key factor in successful transformations and should promote transparent and interactive formats.
  • Particularly in times of automation and AI, it is important to actively involve employees and communicate the “why”.

3

Change communication and people-centered leadership

  • Good leadership and communication are particularly important during change processes or during a crisis.
  • Managers should develop their communication skills and encourage employees to take responsibility.
  • Transparency and strong, yet transparent, leadership are important.

4

Storytelling and narratives as tools

  • Stories and narratives are important tools to bring changes and new technologies to life, helping employees connect on an emotional level.
  • They strengthen internal communication and create a consistent storyline across internal and external messages.

5

AI tools in internal communication

  • AI-supported tools, such as intelligent intranets, can make internal communication more efficient by optimizing business processes and ensuring content quality.
  • Simple, dynamic formats such as videos are particularly eye-catching.
  • It can also be helpful to measure success through AI-driven analysis.

Summary

Using AI in internal communication has the potential to unlock new opportunities, but only if applied with care and tailored to the needs of the target audience. The human element remains indispensable, especially when it comes to change communication and when conveying important information.

We are excited to bring these new insights into our Total Rewards projects and are looking forward to upcoming developments. If you would like to know more about this topic, or are currently exploring new ways to approach internal communication in HR, let’s talk!
